High Reliability SCADA and Control Software

Early 2004 Phocus SCADA package new version 4.0 has been
released by Nautsilus Ltd. Two variants of the package (one for QNX 4.25 and another for QNX 6.2) have the
same set of features.
The new features of the Phocus 4.0
- Context-controlled cursor
The outlook of the cursor depends on the display and the mode. As a result an operator
could see all possible actions easier.
- Flicker-free display updating
When data receiving the displays are updated quickly and smoothly. This flicker-free
mechanism acts in all displays (mimic viewer, trend viewer, data tables etc.)
- Localization comfortability
The tag name length limitation was cancelled. The previous Phocus version had only
12-bytes tag name length. This length is too low for the two-byte symbol coding.
Now the tag name length could be much more, and Phocus applications in the languages
with two-byte symbols could be developed much comfortably.
The new version of Phocus has been completed by a
chemical factory demo application.

An Overview of the Phocus Graphics Interface

Phocus has a simple menu driven graphical interface that is familiar and
intuitive. The Phocus interface window includes date and time, Opus server
status and user access control. The contents of the main menu is adjusted
according to the current user access level and can be customised for each system.
Virtually all of the configuration utilities allow on line alteration of the
system. A fully featured object oriented custom Mimic Builder incorporates extensive
static drawing capabilities combined with easy to dynamic database link
facilities. It features a number of standard object types such as rectangles,
circles, shaded pipes, text with a wide range of fonts, dials and bars. Multiple
objects may be grouped allowing the creation more complex custom grouped objects.
The system includes an extensive scalable object group library and a range of
bitmap style symbol libraries. Editing facilities include resizing, cut, paste,
object to front, object to back, rotate and flip. To link an object to the
realtime database, click on it, select the database record to which it is to be
linked, then select one of many type sensitive animation options available for
that object, then attached it to a specific field within the selected database
record. The Mimic Viewer is capable of rendering custom mimics with many its dynamic
features including object colour change, various text data formats, high and low
rate flashing, embedded trends, X,Y,XY object movement, dialog interface,
numeric data entry and various forms of bitmap oriented animation. All mimics
can be individually sized and various common characteristics defined such as
minimum user access level, network node access and window style control. The standard operator interface menu includes Data Tables for viewing the
real-time database in a tabular form, independent of graphical configuration.
Historical event display for displaying and analysing system events and alarms.
The IO Server communications statistics display is used to inform the operator
how well your system is communicating with its external devices. Finally the
Server display shows the state of each of the Opus servers available on the
network. Historical trend data can be viewed either through the Trend Viewer or as a
trend embedded into a custom mimic. The sophisticated Trend Builder and Viewer
allow the user to perform detailed analysis of trend information. Data can be
retrieved from the Opus historical reader and displayed using maximum, minimum,
average or exact values. The user can Zoom into the display or Pan through time.
You can look at exact values with precise times using the Cursor mode operation. The Report Builder and Viewer is designed as a ‘What You See Is What You Get’ or
WSIWYG application. The user builds a report page by splitting it into various
blocks, for example, header, footer and list block. Within each block the user
enters fixed text data or links a text mask to a database point in order to
display real-time or historical data. The Report Viewer uses the pre-configured
report format to retrieve and format the data for display and/or printing. This
may include the original font formatting or may be produced as a simple ASCII
style data listing.
Simple Configuration Utilities
The Opus realtime database records are created using a simple fill-in-the-blanks
style database builder. Each point may be attached to a pre-configured IO server
which will update the record. The builder includes facilities to set alarm
limits, historical recording, units scaling and state indication. Once the
database is created it can be tested immediately using the Data Tables display. The custom mimic display builder allows you to create clear meaningful mimic
displays using a collection of standard objects and groups. Once created the
characteristics of each object can be link to any field within any record from
any available server on the network. Each object may have multiple links. Why Choose Phocus?
Phocus has been designed to meet the most demanding process monitoring and
control system requirements. This powerful SCADA and HMI software package
provides many features not normally associated with PC based solutions. It is
cost effective and is priced to be competitive with rival packages based on
other less reliable platforms.
Phocus delivers real benefits, OEM’s will find they have reduced time to market
and flexibility to make their end product have a look and feel of its own.
System integrators will benefit through early project completion and peace of
mind, knowing that their solution will perform reliably and virtually
maintenance free for decades. Finally end users can benefit from reduced capital
outlay for large network systems and have confidence in the fact that the
software will do the job today and have the flexibility to expand for their
future requirements. Phocus comes complete with everything you need to implement your system and is
also available as a lower cost runtime environment.
